Midfielder signs contract extension at Liberty Stadium

Swansea have announced that midfielder Mark Gower has signed a one-year extension to his current contract to keep him at the Liberty Stadium until the summer of 2013. Gower previously had a deal that was set to expire at the end of this season, but he revealed earlier this month that he was close to agreeing fresh terms. The 33-year-old, who joined the Welsh club from Southend in 2008, has been in fine form during the early part of the Premier League season. Manager Brendan Rodgers has now rewarded him for those contributions and is delighted to have secured the services of such a key player. Rodgers said: "Mark thoroughly deserves this. He is a great professional who is getting a chance in the Premier League when he probably should have been playing at this level many years ago."

Enjoyment

The former Tottenham trainee is happy protracted talks have been successful and is now looking forward to the rest of the season. "It took a while to get everything agreed, but I am delighted to finally sign the extension," he told the club's official website. "It means I can concentrate fully on my football and help to establish Swansea City as a Premier League club. "I'm feeling fit and enjoying my football more than ever. The way the manager wants us to play the game means it's a pleasure to be part of this midfield and this club. "The way we play, sitting behind the ball in a deeper midfield role suits me."
