Baggies boss concerned over fitness of his key players

West Brom manager Roy Hodgson is keeping a close eye on the fitness reports of Shane Long, Peter Odemwingie, Paul Scharner and Graham Dorrans ahead of his team's Premier League clash with Tottenham on Saturday. Baggies striker Long, who had just returned from a month-long injury, scored the decider when his team defeated Bolton 2-1 last Saturday, only to pick up a new leg problem in training on Tuesday. Scottish midfielder Dorrans twisted his ankle in last weekend's match and still has not returned to training this week whilst Austrian international Scharner has missed the last two games with knee ligament damage. Odemwingie is also still recovering from the knee injury he picked up in a training session almost a month ago, leaving Hodgson very tense about whether his players will recover in time for the weekend. "Scharner is making good progress," Hodgson told West Brom's official website. "He hasn't trained with the first team yet but he tells me he will train tomorrow and the doctors tell me he will train tomorrow. Knowing Scharner and the type of player he is, I think that's how it will be. "Peter is difficult to work out but there is some optimism from the medical staff he might train tomorrow so we'll see what happens. Shane took a knock yesterday morning so we're waiting to hear. "When you've been out for a month, played 90 minutes and then you train, then quite often something else happens. We need him to play two or three games on the bounce or we will get this situation."
