Aberdeen have announced that they will seek compensation from Rangers should the Scottish Premier League leaders award a full-time contract to Sone Aluko.
The winger is currently working with the Glasgow giants after seeing his contract with the Dons expire over the summer.
He is eager to agree terms with the Gers, with the 2011/12 campaign already three months old.
Aluko has impressed during his time in Glasgow and netted in a 3-1 win over St Mirren in a bounce game on Tuesday.
His performance in that contest led to him being offered a deal until the end of the season, with the prospect of a two-year extension.
No contact
Rangers, though, have been forced to delay the completion of an agreement after learning that Aberdeen plan to seek compensation.
They believe that they will be owed some money after helping to develop a player who is still under the age of 23.
"We have still had no contact from Rangers," an Aberdeen spokesman told
STV.
"That could change, of course.
"We will be looking for compensation which we believe we are entitled to."
