Bury captain Steven Schumacher has signed a two-year contract extension after impressing the club with his leadership skills.

The 27-year-old has been at Gigg Lane since July 2010 following his release from Crewe. Schumacher was named captain by then manager Alan Knill before the first game of last season and has made 48 league starts for Bury, scoring 10 goals. The most recent of these goals came last weekend, when the midfielder's 63rd-minute strike helped the Shakers to a 4-2 victory at Walsall. Schumacher is expected to start against Preston on Saturday as his side go in search of their third consecutive league win.
