Franco Di Santo believes Wigan's dramatic late win at Sunderland on Saturday has given the Latics the confidence boost they need ahead of their home clash against Arsenal.
The Argentine striker, who struck an injury-time winner in the 2-1 success at the Stadium of Light to lift Wigan off the foot of the table, feels the result could trigger a positive run of form to pull Roberto Martinez's side away from the relegation zone.
The Latics are now two points from safety and the 22-year old, who has four league goals so far this campaign, says it is vital the team maintain their level of performance.
"The win will give us a big confidence lift going into the Arsenal game, and we have to try and stay at this level in the coming weeks," Di Santo told Wigan's official website.
"It's important we build on this now and try to get a little run going because December is a very tough month for us and one that will ultimately have a massive say on our ambitions for the rest of the season.
"It felt very good to score the winning goal, but the most important thing was the win and for that we're all very, very happy.
"It was an important goal, but I hope there are a lot of far more important goals to come."
Di Santo, who also scored for Wigan at the Stadium of Light last season in a 4-2 defeat, was full of praise for team-mate James McArthur and the Scotland international's crucial role in his late winner.
He said: "It was great play from James. He showed great awareness to know that I was running alongside him. He did all the work, and all I had to do was roll the ball into the net."
A win against the Gunners on Saturday could see Wigan start December by moving out of the Premier League relegation places.
