Adam Johnson expressed his delight after Manchester City overcame a tough test at Arsenal to progress into the last four of the Carling Cup.
The City winger's delightful flick laid on the only goal for substitute Sergio Aguero in the 83rd minute to see City through.
City boss Roberto Mancini made 10 changes from his starting line-up at Liverpool on Sunday and Johnson was pleased to have played his part in the victory.
He told Sky Sports 2: "It was a tough game, it's been a long week and a lot of travelling, but we've come away with the win and we're through to the semi-final.
"We changed the team around, it was the second-stringers if you like, but we're progressing as a team and as a club and I hope it continues."
That progress has seen Johnson play only a fringe role for much of this season, but he said: "For me and the lads who are playing in this competition, it's a chance to try and get in the team week in, week out.
"And if we can get into the final and win another trophy, it's important for the club."
Striker Edin Dzeko, who was also involved in the counter-attacking goal to cap an impressive display, added: "We played like a team, that's most important.
"I am trying to do my best every game and I think today was OK."
Aguero was a first-half replacement for the injured Aleksandar Kolarov, leading to a change of shape which appeared to benefit Dzeko.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina frontman added: "We played from the beginning with one striker, with Sami (Nasri) behind me. Then Aleks got injured, Aguero got in and we played with two, for every striker it is easier with two."
