Wigan's Connor Sammon believes the fierce competition amongst the strikers at the club is spurring them on to achieve their best form.
Roberto Martinez has recognised the need to reinvigorate the Latics strikeforce and has drafted in the burly marksman for the last two games.
Sammon's industry was cited as a big factor in the win against Sunderland before he was replaced by Franco Di Santo, who snared his fourth goal of the term to win the game.
The form of these two has meant Hugo Rodallega has had to make do with a place on the bench and Sammon insists the three-way tussle for the lone striking role will bring out the best in all of them.
"Competition for places is what you want," he told the Evening Post.
"Whether it's me, Franco or Hugo who gets the start, we're all pushing each other and fighting for the position.
"I think that's very healthy for the club because it keeps us fresh, competitive and hungry to work hard in training and in matches.
"We've a lot of big games coming up, particularly over Christmas, and I'm sure we've all got a part to play."
