Defender Stephen Warnock expects Ashley Young to receive a warm welcome when he returns to Aston Villa for the first time since his summer move to Manchester United.
The 26-year-old winger joined the Midland giants for £9.65m from Watford back in 2007 and spent four and a half years at the club before making a move to Old Trafford for a reported fee of around £17m.
Young scored 38 goals in 190 appearances for Villa and won more penalties than any other player in the Premier League last season with a total of five spot kicks.
But Warnock is sure that the England international will be given a hero's welcome by home supporters.
He said: "I think Ashley will go down as a modern day great for Villa.
"I wouldn't expect anything less than a good reception for Ashley from our fans.
"He was a great servant to the club but it's not often the Premier League champions and Champions League runners-up want to sign you.
"We're a club who want to progress but Manchester United are at the top and Ashley has aspirations to be a top, top player.
"He has the ability to be one of the best in Europe and I don't think fans can begrudge him that."
