Wigan Athletic's Ronnie Stam believes that his side have to be defensively strong during the month of December when they have to face some tough teams.
The Latics came from a goal down to get the better of Sunderland 2-1 away in the Premier League last weekend, and are now second from bottom in the table.
The win at the Stadium of Light followed a 3-3 draw with Blackburn Rovers at the DW Stadium and there are signs of improvement for Roberto Martinez's side.
On Saturday Wigan will host Arsenal and right-back Stam is also confident of a positive result but believes that with games against West Bromwich Albion, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Stoke City to come this month, they need to tighten their rearguard.
"It's important we remain tight at the back, because that will be important with some big games coming up," the 27-year-old told The Wigan Evening Post.
"The defence was solid throughout the Sunderland game, which helped us to get the win. And to be honest it was the same against Blackburn, after we conceded that first goal.
"The other goals we conceded were to a penalty and a corner, we didn't give much else away.
"We knew if we could continue in that vein we could do something at Sunderland, and that goes for Arsenal too.
"At home we don't fear anyone, and we can give Arsenal a real game if we keep up our performance levels."
