Goalkeeper Brad Guzan admits any deal to stay at Aston Villa has to be 'right for both parties' as he looks to grasp his chance to impress Alex McLeish.
The USA international has spent the past three-and-a-half years at Villa Park as understudy to compatriot Brad Friedel and then Shay Given this season.
However, with Given sidelined by a hamstring injury, Guzan started his first Premier League game on Saturday in the 2-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers.
The 27-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and talks have taken place regarding an extension, but Guzan does not want to rush into a decision about his future.
"I know there are discussions ongoing with my agent so it is a case of seeing what happens," Guzan told the Birmingham Mail.
"Six months from now I'll be out of contract. It has to be right for both parties, but Villa is a great club.
"At the moment I'm obviously pleased to be playing football, in the side helping out while Shay recovers from injury, and pushing us up the table.
"Obviously I'm in the team now so it gives the manager a chance to look at me. I've seen he has said some nice things about me recently which is good to see."
