Baggies leading chase to sign Dundee United midfielder

West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed his interest in Scott Allan and believes talks to sign the Dundee United midfielder are 'going well'. Skysports.com revealed earlier this week that the Baggies, along with SPL giants Celtic and Rangers, were set to discuss a deal with Allan, who is out of contract at the end of the season. The Baggies have agreed a fee in the region of £400,000 for Allan and are currently favourites to snap up the 20-year-old when the transfer window reopens. Rangers boss Ally McCoist fears his club would be unable to match the financial incentives on offer in England and Hodgson is awaiting further news on his interest. Sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth has been handling the negotiations and Hodgson believes Allan would be a good addition to the West Brom squad.

Interesting future

"Dan Ashworth has been in talks with Dundee United and has followed the player - I've left it up to him," said Hodgson. "He keeps me informed and the last I heard, talks were going well. "Dan likes the player and thinks he's got an interesting future and, as a coach, you've always got to be happy when the club is looking to sign talented players who could be something for you in the future. "I've only seen him on video and have given my opinion as to whether we're in the right ball park as regards the player. "We certainly would be in the right ball park with the player."
