Andrew Surman has warned Norwich not to get carried away with their bright start to life back in the Premier League.
The Canaries are currently ninth in the table after 17 games, but the midfielder knows that the likes of Burnley and Blackpool have been relegated after initially impressing in recent seasons.
After two campaigns which brought back-to-pack promotions, the 25-year-old thinks it is important the players keep their feet on the ground.
He said: "It's been a great time for the club. The last two seasons have been incredible. We've had a great start.
"[But] I've said all along you can't get too carried away. Look at the start Blackpool had last season and they ended up getting relegated.
"If we can be in this position at the end of the season, it will be great. There have been other teams that have come up and started well and then slipped away.
"It is about consistently picking up points. We've had a great start but it is going to mean nothing if we get relegated."
With some of the league's more established teams struggling this season, the South African believes all three promoted sides, Norwich, QPR and Swansea, can beat the drop.
Surman added: "I suppose teams don't know what to expect when you come up initially. But all the teams that have got promoted have got good enough players to stay in the division.
"I think we've got good strength in depth. To keep teams guessing we've got a few different shapes we can play anyway."
