Barnsley are set to hold further talks with injured captain Jacob Butterfield in an attempt to persuade the midfielder to sign a new contract.
Butterfield's current deal expires at the end of the season and he has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs.
The likes of Everton, Newcastle United and Stoke City have all scouted the 21-year-old this season, while Aston Villa and Wolves are other clubs to have been linked with bids.
The Tykes captain is currently sidelined after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Leeds United on New Year's Eve which will rule him out for the rest of the season.
He could, therefore, have played his final game for Barnsley, but director Don Rowing is hoping to persuade Butterfield to extend his stay at the club over the coming months.
Rowing told the Sheffield Star: "Jacob's duty-bound to stay with us until the summer, but over the course of the next few months I'm sure we'll sit down again and see if we can get him to stay at the club."
