Crewe forced to shelve interest in Derby teenager Ball

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis remains keen to sign a striker with a physical presence after seeing a move for Derby County teenager Callum Ball fail to get off the ground. Davis hopes to bolster his attack with a loan signing this month and was showing an interest in Derby youngster Ball. However, the 19-year-old has scored twice in 10 Championship appearances for the Rams this season and that has forced Davis to look elsewhere. "I knew it would be difficult because of the sort of player we've been looking at," Davis told The Sentinel. "If I wanted to sign a quick, small striker there's plenty of them about, but I don't want that type. "We asked about Callum, but he's in the team at Derby now and scoring goals. "It's difficult as well because every other team in the league is inquiring about those sort of players."
