Beattie and Butler allowed to leave the Liberty early

Swansea have confirmed that Craig Beattie and Tom Butler have left the Premier League club by mutual consent. Neither have appeared for the first team since winning promotion from the Championship last season. The pair were due to come out of contract in the summer but the Swans have agreed to release them early, leaving them free to find new clubs. Beattie, 28, was the club's record signing when he made an £800,000 move from West Brom in 2009 and the former Celtic striker went on to score seven goals in 45 Championship appearances for the Swans, although 24 were as a substitute.

New signings

The arrival of new record signing Danny Graham and Leroy Lita in the summer left Beattie surplus to requirements and the Scotland international had a spell on loan at Watford earlier this season. Butler, 30, joined the Swans from Hartlepool in August 2006 and made 126 league appearances for the club, scoring nine goals. The Irish midfielder helped the club win the League One title and featured in the Championship before missing the whole of last season through injury. He signed a new one-year deal last summer but failed to break into Brendan Rodgers' plans. "The club would like to thank both players for their service, and wish them well for the future," read a statement on Swansea's official website.
