Gary Cahill insists greed was not behind the delay in finalising a move to Chelsea and says he would have left Bolton Wanderers in the summer if he was only concerned about his salary.
Chelsea finalised the reported £7million capture of Cahill earlier this week, having originally agreed a fee with Bolton late last month.
Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas initially revealed the club and Cahill were 'miles apart' regarding personal terms and that prompted claims the England international's demands were excessive.
However, Cahill wanted to ensure the whole package was right before committing to leaving Bolton, where he was due to be out of contract at the end of the season.

"It was hard because the perception was I was being greedy," said Cahill.
"But what sits well with me is that my friends and family, the clubs, knew the situation, knew what was really going on. And that's all I need.
"If it was about wages I would have waited until the end of the season, and everyone would have known. But that was not the situation.
"It was the whole package. I am moving a long way from where I live, from where my family lives. I've got a young daughter. It was the whole package.
"Making sure that I could come, settle straight in, and concentrate fully on playing football. I thought that was important and so did the clubs."
