Queens Park Rangers boss Mark Hughes has confirmed he is trying to seal a deal for Nancy's Mali midfielder Samba Diakite before next week's transfer deadline.
Hughes is keen to bolster his midfield options after seeing Alejandro Faurlin ruled out for the rest of the season through injury and has lined up a deal for Diakite.
Lyon have also expressed an interest in Diakite but Hughes is hopeful he can lure the midfielder, who is currently on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, to Loftus Road.
"We're hoping to progress with that," admitted Hughes. "He's a player I like and one I think could help us.
"We're hopeful that the conversations we are having will lead to something happening, but nothing is confirmed as yet."
Hughes was remaining coy on his pursuit of long-term target Christopher Samba who has again reiterated his desire to leave Blackburn.
QPR have already seen two bids rejected for Samba, who has handed in a transfer request at Ewood Park.
Hughes has refused to disclose if QPR will come back with a third offer for Samba before the transfer window slams shut next Tuesday.
"We expressed an interest and I think we actually put in a couple of bids, but that was two or three weeks ago," added Hughes.
"Blackburn came out very strongly and said they didn't want to encourage anymore bids so that is where we left it.
"That situation seems to have come to a head between the player and his club.
"It is a shame as I obviously worked with Chris at Blackburn and I know them as a club and him as a player.
"It is a shame the relationship seems to have broken down, but it is their problem that they have to resolve."
