Swansea winger Nathan Dyer says he wants to be a regular for England.
The 24-year-old has always been overlooked for the Three Lions - even at representative level.
But his performances for the Swans in the Premier League this season have led to calls for him to be given a chance by Fabio Capello, particularly with Theo Walcott misfiring for Arsenal.
Dyer told the
Daily Star: "I said three years ago that in five years I wanted to be in the Premier League and playing for England.
"So hopefully England is on the way. It's always been a big ambition of mine and it's nice for people to talk about it."
Youth-team
Dyer was part of a group of pacey wingers who came through the Southampton youth team, playing alongside Gareth Bale and Walcott.
He added: "I was older than them but I've always thought some people develop quicker than others.
"Gareth shot up so quickly it was ridiculous.
"I remember when we were younger I could knock it past and run. I could never do that now though.
"He got into the first team straight away and got his move to Tottenham, and the same with Theo going to Arsenal.
"I felt like I was a bit left behind but knew I wasn't at that level yet. I wasn't playing consistently or well for Southampton.
"I knew I was going to become a good player but it would take time. Now I'm starting to hopefully get to my best."
