Sheffield United manager Danny Wilson says James Beattie could have earned more money at other clubs instead of agreeing to stay at Bramall Lane.
Beattie rejoined the Blades in November on a short-term deal and has now extended his contract until the end of the season.
He has made seven substitute appearances for the League One club and is continuing to work his way back towards full fitness.
Wilson is delighted to have retained the 33-year-old after revealing the former England international had received more lucrative offers.
Money no issue
"James could have earned a lot of money by going elsewhere," said Wilson. "But money isn't the issue for him.
"There were clubs abroad in for him. James knows the financial situation here but he's staying because he wants to play and he wants to play for Sheffield United. He's here for the right reasons and that's music to my ears.
"I didn't have to pitch Sheffield United to James. He knows this club better than I do.
"He's probably operating at 50 to 70 per cent fitness wise right now but if I didn't think he can make an impact on the pitch he wouldn't be here."
