QPR defender joins Reading until the summer

Reading have bolstered their defensive options with the addition of QPR's Matthew Connolly on loan for the remainder of the season. The 24-year-old, who can operate anywhere across the backline, could miss out on a debut against Doncaster due to a minor injury. Connolly played a key role in QPR's promotion last season, but has been restricted to six Premier League appearances this term. Royals boss Brian McDermott has labelled Connolly as a 'really good signing', stating his versatility will be an asset.

Versatile

"He can play anywhere in the back four and we think this is a really good signing," McDermott told the club's official website. "He's played a number of games in the Premier League this year and played more than 30 times with Kaspars (Gorkss) last year. "I remember him as a youngster at Arsenal, Bournemouth, he's been a utility player and he's just the job at 24."
