Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp will have breathed a sigh of relief after holding onto Lucas Barrios in the transfer window.

Last season's top scorer stays with Bundesliga champions

Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp will have breathed a sigh of relief after holding onto Paraguay striker Lucas Barrios in the transfer window. The 27-year-old is under contract with the defending Bundesliga champions until June 2014 but was linked with Fulham in January. He has failed to get back into the Dortmund team on a regular basis this season after picking up an injury at the Copa America last summer and had expressed an unhappiness at the situation. However, Klopp had insisted before the window slammed shut that he wanted to keep hold of the player, who has been the club's top goalscorer in each of the last two seasons.

No desire

The Dortmund boss told kicker-Sportmagazin: "Still we do not have a desire to move Lucas on. We are not intending to sell." Meanwhile, the club have announced the extension of Klopp's contract by two years until 2016, while also tying sports director Michael Zorc to the club until the same date. "We are delighted to have extended the contracts of both," said Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke in a statement. "Both have put in outstanding work in the past few years."
