Ajax striker Mounir El Hamdaoui turned down a last-minute offer of a loan deal to Fulham, according to the player's agent.
The Morocco international's proposed move to Fiorentina collapsed on transfer deadline day.
And agent Sigi Lens revealed that Fulham offered the player an opportunity to reunite with his former boss Martin Jol at Craven Cottage - just over two hours before the close of the window.
However, the 27-year-old attacker, who had been told he could leave Ajax, opted against the move and will now head back to the Amsterdam ArenA.
El Hamdaoui joined Ajax on a four-year contract from AZ Alkmaar last summer when Jol was in charge and he has also attracted the interest of PSV Eindhoven.
He was also signed by Jol for Tottenham six years ago, although he failed to make an impact at White Hart Lane.
Agent Lens revealed: "At 8:44pm (after the collapse of the deal with Fiorentina), Jeroen Slop (Ajax's finance director) sent me a text message proposing to send the player on a five month loan deal to Fulham (with El Hamdaoui's former coach Martin Jol), but we were still in Florence and anyway, Mounir said no."
El Hamdaoui netted 13 goals in 26 Eredivisie appearances in his first season, but he has not played since April after falling out with head coach Frank de Boer.
