Wigan boss excited about February's fixtures

Roberto Martinez believes Wigan Athletic are a stronger squad following the conclusion of the January transfer window. The Latics added one fresh face at the DW Stadium following the arrival of Jean Beausejour from Birmingham City. Wigan were linked with Fulham's Andy Johnson and Watford defender Adrian Mariappa, but both stayed put. Martinez was also able to retain Hugo Rodallega and Victor Moses and the Spaniard is now looking forward to February's fixtures. Wigan are bottom of the Premier League table after 23 games, but he is enthused ahead of games against Everton, Bolton and Aston Villa.

Stronger

"The real situation is we finished the window with a stronger squad than the one we had at the beginning, and that's always the work we're going to put in," explained Martinez. "We welcomed an outstanding footballer, a great international with incredible experience, Jean Beausejour, and I think he showed straight away the impact he had with the squad, so we're delighted with that. "We work hard as a football club, we lost nobody and we added, so it's been a positive period for us. We're in February now and it's time to move on.
Exciting
"We've got an exciting month in front of us, it's a time where we know as a football club we have to find a way to be consistent and win games on a regular basis. "Whatever happened in January, whatever happened early on in the season, it will count for very little from now on. "We are together, it's been a difficult period, nobody enjoys not getting points on a regular basis but we've found a way to be competitive in every game. "Now it's a matter of affecting the scorelines and making sure we start a very strong run, especially in the eight games that we've got left here at the DW Stadium, and that's what we're going to focus on."
