Swansea defender says trip to Spain is 'no jolly'

Garry Monk believes Swansea's five-day training camp in Spain will prove to be a beneficial experience for the squad. Brendan Rodgers plans to take his men to Tenerife after Saturday's game against Norwich, with the Swans not in action again until 26th February. While the break will allow the players to recover after a gruelling few months, Monk insists they will also be working hard to prepare for the run-in. The experienced defender also feels the trip will help Swansea's newest recruits to get to know their team-mates. "I'm sure there will be people who will say we are going away on a jolly," Monk said in the Daily Star.

"But we're going out there to work - and work hard. "With the climate and facilities out there, it will allow us to put in some high-intensity sessions. "Of course, there will be some time to relax - which is important for recovery - but this trip couldn't have come at a better time as it will also give some of the new faces a chance to bond further with the group. "It's not too long ago that if you mentioned going away, we would have been thinking Fairwood Common near Swansea."
