Full-back eager to play first-team football with Peterborough

Fulham left-back Matthew Briggs is hoping his loan move to Peterborough is going to provide the first-team experience he is craving. The 20-year-old has found himself in and out of the starting line-up at Craven Cottage this season making just six appearances for the club. But with the loan window reopened the England U21 international was keen to go out and find regular first-team experience. The full-back is now set to go straight into the Peterborough squad to face West Ham United in the Championship on Saturday.

Experience

"At Fulham I wasn't really playing much so I just wanted to get out on loan," he told the club's official website. "I kept telling the manager every day I need to go and play games, because obviously I was on the bench or not in the squad, so I just need to get experience under my belt. "I wanted to get fitness as well and this is the perfect opportunity for me. It's a month to start with and then we can extend it afterwards if all parties agree. I would be interested in extending it if everything works out. "I spoke to the manager Darren Ferguson and am excited about working with him. I have watched Peterborough play many times, and obviously when he was at Preston as well, so I know what kind of manager he is, and I liked what I saw."
Achievement
Despite being proud of his achievements at Fulham, Briggs feels that his game is only going to improve by spreading his wings and gaining added experience. "It's a big achievement to have played six games in the senior Fulham team at 20-years-old but obviously I wanted to get loads of games under my belt to get more experience, so it was a good idea to come to Peterborough," he added. "I am more of an attacking left back so I like to get forward but I can also defend. I have also got a lot of height as well so that adds to my game. "I know Gabriel Zakuani and Ryan Bennett so they should help me settle in. I just cannot wait to get started now."
