Halford - Players in the dark

Greg Halford claims Portsmouth's unpaid players are 'in the dark as much as anybody else' when it comes to the club's financial troubles.

Pompey staff still waiting on payment of wages

Greg Halford claims Portsmouth's unpaid players are 'in the dark as much as anybody else' when it comes to the club's financial troubles. This is, unfortunately, not the first time Pompey have suffered a monetary crisis in recent years. Their ongoing problems have led to the payment of staff salaries being delayed, leaving those in the Fratton Park camp facing up to an uncertain future. Pompey face the threat of entering administration for a second time over an unpaid £1.9million tax bill. Until their accounts are sorted out the problems will continue, and Halford admits all the players can do is keep giving their all on the field. Discussing the delayed payment of wages, he said: "It gets discussed by us but there is not point over-talking it because we're in the dark as much as anybody else. "Until upstairs figure out what is happening, we have to get on with playing and getting as many points for the fans."

Protest

Portsmouth supporters made their feelings on the matter clear on Saturday as they staged a sit-in protest at the end of their 1-1 draw away at Blackpool. Halford says the fans have the full backing of the players, with it important for them to highlight the plight of the club. He said: "I was aware of the protest because I talk with fans on Twitter. We knew it wasn't a slur against the players. "Doing what they did will help with getting a new owner."
