Smith hopes brace spurs call

Oldham striker Matt Smith is hoping his two-goal haul in the reserves will earn him a place in the first-team.

Smith bagged a brace as Oldham's second string defeated their Burnley counterparts 3-2 and the striker was equally as happy to get a near full game under his belt. "It has given me added confidence scoring the two goals. But more important was getting 90 minutes under my belt," he told the club's official website. The summer recruit from non-league Solihull Moors has been putting himself through extra training sessions to ensure he is fit enough to take his big chance when it next comes along. "It is fundamental I work on my fitness so when I am called upon for the first team I am raring to go. I know myself I ought to be putting away my chances in the first team better than I have been doing." "It is alright getting chances, but I need to start burying them to make an impression in the manager's mind."
