Latics man relishing special night in Slovenia

Wigan defender Gary Caldwell will captain Scotland in Wednesday night's friendly meeting with Slovenia. Caldwell will take the armband because Darren Fletcher remains out and Kenny Miller will start on the bench after playing in Sunday's Carling Cup final for Cardiff. Former Celtic man Caldwell admitted it would be a special night for him to lead out his country. "Fletch is the captain and Kenny is the vice-captain so they are the men in possession and I am 100 per cent behind them, but to get it for one night will be special," admitted Caldwell. Scotland boss Craig Levein confirmed Celtic defender Charlie Mulgrew will make his debut and he feels the full-back has improved as a player. "Charlie will play left-back. He would have been in the squad in November in Cyprus but he was injured. "He is playing out his skin, he has improved enormously." With Miller on the bench, Craig Mackail-Smith will start up front while Wigan midfielder James McArthur goes straight into the first XI, having been called into the squad on Sunday due to injury withdrawals.
