Florent Malouda says France will go into Euro 2012 confident of beating Group D rivals England after a confidence-boosting win over Germany.
The Chelsea wide man came off the bench to grab the decisive goal as Les Bleus claimed a 2-1 victory over the World Cup semi-finalists Bremen on Wednesday.
France open their campaign at this summer's European Championships with a clash against England on 11th June and Malouda says France will go into the contest, and the tournament as a whole, full of confidence.
"Germany are a superior team to England, yet we beat them," he told The Sun.
"We can surprise the entire world if we carry on in this way. We must not get big-headed as we have gone out in the first round at the last two tournaments.
"It was a friendly and competitive games are completely different but we were confident, spirited and fearless against Germany.
"We have to aim to be at least getting past the first round in the Euros."
Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye has become a regular in his country's starting line-up under Laurent Blanc and also thinks France will be one of the major contenders to claim the European title.
"There are a lot of strong teams in the finals and we are one of them, definitely," Cabaye told the Daily Telegraph.
"We will take a lot of confidence from this win. But we know the real test will come at the competition and we are taking nothing for granted. But we are growing as a team."
