Winger could be out for remainder of season

On-loan Augsburg winger Akaki Gogia is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining a knee injury. Gogia picked up the problem in training this week and the decision has been taken not to send him for an operation. The 20-year-old is happy for the damage to heal in its own time and believes he could be back before the end of the season. "I have decided to recover from this injury without undergoing a surgery," Gogia told Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung. "You could well act on this injury by doing a surgery, but in the end conservative treatment looked the better way. I hope to be back in six weeks."

Battling

Augsburg boss Jos Luhukay, however, fears he could remain out of action for the rest of the Bundesliga campaign, with the club battling to avoid relegation. He said: "I am not so sure he will be back soon. I feel he could be out for at least ten weeks. "This would rule him out for the rest of the season." Regardless of how quickly Gogia recovers, it is a blow for Augsburg to lose a player who arrived on loan from Wolfsburg at the start of the season. He will remain with the club until the summer of 2013.
