Everton boss David Moyes admits midfielder Royston Drenthe still has a lot to learn before he reaches his true potential.
The 24-year-old is on loan from Real Madrid and scored his fourth goal of the season against QPR on Saturday.
The Toffees failed to hold onto their lead at Loftus Road and had to settle for a 1-1 draw, leaving them 13th in the Premier League.
Drenthe has mainly been used for Everton's home games this season and has often been brought on as a substitute.
But Saturday gave the Dutchman his first league start since January and he justified his selection with a stunning strike, to follow up a goal against Blackpool in the FA Cup two weeks earlier.
But Moyes believes Drenthe's progress since arriving at the club has been a source of frustration.
He said: "It's taken him time to settle. He came from Real Madrid and you think they will come and understand what we do here. But they don't straight away.
"There's a lot more of the defensive side of the game we need him to be part of. He can't just do what he wants.
"He's beginning to do a bit better and can do much better. He has that ability to score, to create a chance. We're beginning to trust him much more now."
