Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell has confirmed he has discussed a possible deal with a Portsmouth player, but is unsure if the move will go through.
Portsmouth's financial problems have already seen several players leave on loan recently, with the likes of Liam Lawrence, Erik Huseklepp, Stephen Henderson and Hayden Mullins moving on.
Further departures could happen before Thursday's loan deadline, with Ipswich having previously shown an interest in Joel Ward and Jason Pearce.
Reports suggest that the versatile Ward is Jewell's target and the Ipswich boss is waiting to see whether the mystery man will agree a deal.
Building for the future
"I met one of them on Sunday after getting permission off Portsmouth," said Jewell in the East Anglian Daily Times. "Whether that's going to happen I don't know.
"I'm not going to tell you who it is but we chatted for a couple of hours. If it happens, great, if it doesn't then we move on.
"I think he liked what he saw, but at the same time I don't think the player is short of offers either.
"We won't be bringing anyone in on loan just for the sake of it. If we do something it will be with a view to them being here next season. I'm more interested in building for the future rather than short-term stuff at the moment."
