Nick Barmby has confirmed that Hull City are in talks over a deal for Swiss goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic after being impressed with him in training.

Barmby also keen to turn Mannone loan into permanent deal

Nick Barmby has confirmed that Hull City are in talks over a deal for Swiss goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic after being impressed with his performances in training. Jakupovic, who has played for his country at senior international level, was recently invited for a trial spell with the Tigers. He did well in a behind-closed-doors friendly with Sheffield United on Wednesday and could become Barmby's first permanent signing as Hull boss as he is available on a free transfer this summer. "We like what we see so hopefully we can take if further," Barmby told the Hull Daily Mail. "He's done really well in training. "Until we make a decision and he makes a decision, there's not too much more to say, but we're very impressed by him. "We're speaking with his agent so we'll see where it goes."

Money to spend

While keen to reach an agreement with 27-year-old Jakupovic, Barmby also hopes to secure the services of fellow keeper Vito Mannone on a permanent deal. Mannone is currently on loan at the KC Stadium from Arsenal and it could be difficult to strike a deal over a fee, but Barmby would like to think that he will have the backing of his owner. "You've always got to keep on your toes," he said. "Vito is still a priority for us. He wants to play for us and he's come in and consistently done very well. "Hopefully Arsenal will be forthcoming but that will depend on a fee. "It will also depend on how much we've got to spend in the summer. "I was told in the press conference when I first got the job there'd be money to spend so we'll see."
