Franck Ribery is enjoying a trip down memory lane as he prepares to line up against former side Marseille in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie in the city on Wednesday.
The Bayern Munich winger made his name on the French South Coast during a two-year spell with the famous old club before joining the German giants in 2007.
And Ribery admits he has been touched but not surprised by the warm reception he has received from the fans ahead of his return to the Stade Velodrome.
"I wasn't surprised, no, because I think the people know my mentality," he said "I have a similar mentality to the people from here. I love football and giving the best of myself."
"It's a bit strange for me. I played here for two years and it went very well. I'm very happy to be back.
"The bus journey to the hotel brought back lots of good memories. It's a city that loves football.
"I hope that things go well for us. It'll be difficult. Marseille are in a delicate position in the league and they'll be eager to do something good."
The fans will be hoping for something special too having watched their team go on a run of eight games without a win in recent weeks.
But despite their indifferent domestic form this season they have set the Champions League alight with their displays so far.
They did the double over German champions Borussia Dortmund in the group phase before eliminating Inter Milan in the last 16 and Ribery warned his team-mates they should not underestimate their opponents.
"It'll be a very complicated match," he added. "They'll want to put in a huge performance and they'll be very motivated and aggressive.
"It's up to us to be focused and not to put ourselves under needless pressure. It's important to get a good result here."
