Goalkeeper Petr Cech believes Chelsea's UEFA Champions League victory against Benfica at the Estadio da Luz could not have gone much better after Salomon Kalou's winning goal.
Blues caretaker manager Roberto Di Matteo produced a tactical masterstroke as England's last representatives in Europe produced one of their best performances of the season to stifle their opponents before scoring a vital away goal in the second half.
It was Chelsea's first away win in the competition this season and it was also the first time Benfica have failed to score at home in 22 matches in the current campaign.
And Cech expressed his delight at the result after the game by hailing the performance by the West Londoners as simply 'perfect'.
"We can say it was a perfect game for us in terms of the result," he told Sky Sports News.
"We kept a clean sheet and we were patient throughout the game, waiting for our chances to come and in the end we scored on a very good counter-attack.
"Overall, we can be really satisfied because in terms of the game plan we did really well. We didn't let them play first half and second half we waited patiently for our chance and it came."
And when asked if critics are being a bit too quick in trying to write off Chelsea's chances of winning any silverware this season, the Czech star replied: "I think this is a strange season. There were ups and downs in the league but we are still in the Champions League and the FA Cup.
"We are still hunting for two trophies so let's see how we finish, but we've put ourselves in a very good position."
Meanwhile, Spain international Juan Mata insists the tie is not yet over with the second leg to come at Stamford Bridge next Wednesday.
"It's not over yet. Benfica will come to our stadium to try to score. We have to fight yet," he said.
And defender Paulo Ferreira, who made his first start in the competition this season for Chelsea, was also delighted with the 1-0 scoreline, saying: "We are really happy because we got a good result against a good team and I'm also happy because I was not playing for a long time and I played 80 minutes and did the best I could.
"I was happy because I helped the team get a good result."
