St Johnstone have confirmed the signing of former Celtic and Hibernian forward Derek Riordan on a contract until the end of the season.

Striker could face former club Celtic on Sunday

St Johnstone have confirmed the signing of former Celtic and Hibernian forward Derek Riordan on a contract until the end of the season. Riordan was available on a free transfer after leaving Chinese Super League side Shaanxi Chanba in November and has recently been training with Saints. He has now earned a short-term deal at McDiarmid Park and could be in contention to face his old club Celtic on Sunday. A statement from the Perth club read: "St Johnstone have completed the signing of striker Derek Riordan until the end of the season and international clearance has been received. "With the player without a club at the moment and the club limited for choice in the forward area (Marcus Haber is currently away with the Canadian international side at the Olympic qualifying tournament) this short-term deal is seen as a help to both parties." Riordan has three caps for Scotland, but none since 2009, and trained with Saints' SPL rivals Kilmarnock back in January.
