'Confident' Newcastle still targeting a Champions League place

Newcastle skipper Fabricio Coloccini says his side still have the belief to clinch a UEFA Champions League place. Their hopes of finishing in the Premier League top four took a major blow with a shock 4-0 thumping at relegation battlers Wigan on Saturday. Alan Pardew's men were three points clear in fourth ahead of an important weekend but their defeat, coupled with victories for Tottenham and Chelsea, leaves the trio separated by only one point. Newcastle travel to rivals Chelsea on Wednesday knowing another loss would leave their hopes hanging by a thread with only three games left. But defender Coloccini is confident his side can bounce back from the Wigan defeat and see off the two London clubs in the race to play against Europe's elite.

Tests

"The Champions League is like a dream for us," said the Argentine. "We still have a chance to fight for it. We're having a great season, so our confidence is still high. "We know we have to get something at Chelsea. "We know a Europa League place is in the bag, so we can push for a top-four finish. "Wigan was a test for us and we were disappointing. Now we've three more tests."
