Bristol City defender was frustrated not to be involved more

Bristol City defender Christian Ribeiro remains uncertain where his long-term future lies after a frustrating season at Ashton Gate. The Wales international struggled to make an impression on the first team and was forced to go out on loan in order to play regular football. However, successful loan spells at both Carlisle and Scunthorpe helped the 22-year-old prove his credentials after an injury-hit year previously. The full-back is now waiting to learn whether he will be part of Derek McInnes' plans next season after the Robins preserved their Championship status.

Looking forward

"I knew when I came back to Bristol that it was only for cover and also because of the situation they found themselves in at the time," Ribeiro told Sky Sports. "Obviously, the lads finished the season quite strongly, but before then it was a worrying time. "They told me that it was only for cover when I was brought back from Scunthorpe, so I was always going to be just part of the squad in case of any injuries or suspensions. "It would have been nice to play some first-team football though because I was really enjoying it at Scunthorpe, but that is part and parcel of football. "It has been like this all season for me at Bristol City, so I'm used to being out of the side here and I'm just looking forward to keeping fit and looking to next season. "I'm not really sure what will happen in the summer because a lot of clubs, including Bristol City, were still worried about what division they'd be in next season until recently. "Now that has been confirmed I'm sure they will start to make plans for next season, but I'm not too sure about whether I'm included until they tell me."
