Chelsea interim boss Roberto Di Matteo has revealed he is making alternative plans should his first-choice centre-backs of David Luiz and Gary Cahill not recover for the UEFA Champions League final.
Captain John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic are both suspended for next Saturday's showpiece event against four-times winners Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena along with Ramires and Raul Meireles.
Luiz and Cahill will remain in a race against time to recover from their hamstring injuries in the hope of lining up in Germany.
Right-back Jose Bosingwa looks likely to be asked to fill one vacancy, with one midfielder possibly having to drop back into defence, such as John Obi Mikel, Michael Essien or even Oriol Romeu.
Di Matteo is expected ring the changes against already-relegated Blackburn for Chelsea's final game of the Premier League season on Sunday, with the four players suspended for the Munich final likely to play.
Defender Sam Hutchinson, who has made just one substitute appearance since his comeback from what had been a career-ending knee injury, is also expected to start.
Di Matteo said: "We'll practise different solutions, just in case.
"At the moment, we have the other two centre-halves training, but I'm trying other solutions as well."
The Blues caretaker-boss will jet out to the German Cup final on Saturday to watch Jupp Heynckes' Bayern in action against Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund in Berlin before next weekend's showdown.
He said in The Daily Star: "I've watched many of their games. I'm going to watch them on Saturday night in the German Cup final.
"I will analyse their pattern of play and all that. I've seen them before.
"I've seen the two semi-finals and in the group stages as well."
