Port Vale have handed midfielder Lewis Haldane a new six-month deal to prove his fitness.
Haldane has been hit by illness and injury during a troubled two-year spell with the club. The 27-year-old winger initially joined Vale on a season-long loan from Bristol Rovers in 2009 before completing a free transfer at the start of the following season, but his career at Vale Park has been beset by problems. Haldane was sidelined for four months at the start of the 2010/11 campaign after an insect bite on his ankle sustained during pre-season training became badly infected. Having battled back to fitness, he then suffered a broken leg in a Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie at Tranmere last August. The Welshman was on the verge of full fitness towards the end of this season and even trained with the rest of the squad for the final 10 days of the campaign, so he has been given a chance to prove his fitness by boss Micky Adams.
