Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall has expressed his delight after signing a new three-year contract with the club.
The 27-year-old still had 12 months to run on his deal but manager Malky Mackay was keen to secure his fellow Scot with a contract that will tie him to the Bluebirds until the summer of 2015.
The former Celtic trainee has made 99 appearances for Cardiff since signing from Norwich City in 2009, missing much of the 2010-11 season with an elbow injury.
But Marshall has now established himself as first choice, and says he was more than happy to stay at the club.
He told the club's
official website: "It was an easy decision for me to extend my deal here.
"The gaffer pulled me not so long ago and told me I was part of his plans. He was a big part of my decision to stay here. He gave me the chance to get back fit and prove myself back last summer and I appreciated that. I want to be able to repay him now on the pitch and kick on again."
Sympathy
Marshall also offered his sympathy to fellow goalkeeper Tom Heaton, who was released by Cardiff this week.
"Tom is a number one Championship goalkeeper without question," he said.
"When he came in last season he was fantastic for us. But he wants to play and knows that he must be playing first-team football.
"Whichever club he ends up at will be lucky to have him."
