Crewe Alexandra chairman John Bowler rates sought-after teenager Nick Powell as one of the best players to have graduated through the club's famed youth system.
And he has backed the 18-year-old midfielder, who is
reportedly a target for Manchester United, to shine in the Premier League.
Plenty of future international stars, including the likes of David Platt, Danny Murphy and Robbie Savage, started their careers at Gresty Road under the guidance of technical director Dario Gradi.
Bowler says Gradi thinks current prized asset Powell is more than capable of following these players to the top of the football ladder.
"I think he's one of the best there has been," Bowler told Sky Sports News.
"But you would have to ask Dario that because he's the expert.
"Certainly Dario does not underestimate this lad's talent. He's got natural ability and Dario said, in his view, there is no reason why Nick cannot play at the highest level of league football."
Powell enhanced his burgeoning reputation by netting the Railwaymen's opening goal in their League Two play-off final win against Cheltenham with a stunning volley.
Bigger clubs are set to circle around the Crewe-born youngster this summer and Bowler insists the player's development is key to any potential transfer.
"Keeping hold of him is not a struggle because it's part and parcel of what we do here," he said.
"If we find young talent, and obviously Nick has got plenty of talent, there will become a right time when he has got to further his career beyond what he can do here.
"Our job is to help him find the right club to move to and hopefully there's some financial compensation for us to help reinvest into this future development scheme which we've got."
