Portsmouth fans' favourite Greg Halford is hoping to gain promotion from the Championship next season, as he continues to weigh up his options this summer.
The 27-year-old is hot property following the South Coast club's demotion to League One, with several Championship outfits keen to take advantage of their demise.
Halford, like the majority of Portsmouth's player, is expected to depart Fratton Park this summer, and he told SkySports.com that he is keen to find success next season following the struggles of last term.
"Probably 70% of the teams in the Championship, whether they are coming down or up as well, will be looking to qualify for the play-offs next year.
"That is why the Championship is so interesting because anyone can beat anyone on their day in this league.
"Whoever can get that level of consistency throughout the season will gain success, with Reading and Southampton doing just that this year.
"Hopefully, I can find a club that has the recipe for success, which is one that has a great togetherness around it and can perform on a consistent basis, and help them achieve that."
Portsmouth finished eight points adrift of safety, with the club's ten point deduction for falling into administration the major cause of relegation, but Halford predicts a bright future in League One.
"We always hoped to finish within touching distance of teams like Nottingham Forest and Bristol City and if you restored the ten points taken off us then we'd have stayed up.
"That was our main priority and we've managed to regain a little pride out of it as well.
"We had four youngsters on the bench and another one started on the final day of the season and that was invaluable experience for them even if there wasn't a great deal at stake in the game itself.
"It can only help them and hopefully they can create a togetherness again once the big earners have departed, but the main person they need to keep hold of is the gaffer because he is the right man to be able to bring them back up again."
