Belgium forward sincerely apologises for the harm to Cahill

Belgium forward Dries Mertens has apologised after Gary Cahill's injury ruled the Chelsea centre-back out of Euro 2012. Cahill suffered a double fracture of his jaw during England's 1-0 win over Belgium on Saturday after he was pushed into goalkeeper Joe Hart by Mertens in the early stages of the game at Wembley. Mertens has since expressed remorse for his part in the incident, issuing an apology on his Twitter page. The PSV Eindhoven forward wrote: "I sincerely apologise for the harm I've cost to Cahill. When in the heat of the moment, you often don't think about the consequences. "My thoughts go out to him and I hope he recovers well!"
