Portsmouth striker Marko Futacs is ready to spring a surprise on boss Michael Appleton by committing his future to the club.
Appleton revealed last week that he believed the 22-year-old would leave the club after Futacs missed the deadline set by Pompey by which their players had to commit their futures to the club.
Futacs has been offered a new one-year contract, albeit on reduced terms, compared to what he would have received had the 12-month option in his original contract been activated.
Deal
However, the Hungary Under 21 international's agent has been in talks with the League One side and is hopeful a deal can be struck.
Administrator Trevor Birch told
The News: "I am not sure what the full position is with that.
"However, I think he (Futacs) still wants a deal. The situation is not cut and dried by any means at the moment and has not definitely left.
"He had been offered a contract which is a lower figure so it is about whether he wants to accept it or not.
"That is down to him. He has not refused it, though. His agent has said he missed the deadline because he didn't think he really needed to get back in time.
"But Michael (Appleton) is still talking to his agent so we'll wait and see on that one."
