Cardiff boss could revive interest in midfielder but has other targets

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay remains an admirer of Portsmouth's Liam Lawrence but says he is not a primary transfer target at the current time. The midfielder made 15 appearances for the Welsh club while on loan at Cardiff towards the end of last season but is now back with Pompey, who start the next campaign in League One. And Mackay has now admitted that, while he could revive his interest in Lawrence, there are other players on Cardiff's radar. "Liam is a great lad and influenced our team with his experience and quality when he came on loan last season," Mackay told Wales Online. "He is a player we may look to bring back but he remains a Portsmouth player and, for the moment, we are working on other priorities."

Lawrence has indicated he would be happy to return to the Cardiff City Stadium after performing impressively last term. "Cardiff told me at the end of last season they are interested," he said. "I did okay there. I would not have played every game if I had not been doing well. "When I left I spoke to Malky and he said he was looking to take me back this season. Obviously, I would be interested. I'm just waiting to see what develops."
