Andy Reid is looking forward to working with Sean O'Driscoll again but insists player power played no part in the appointment of Nottingham Forest's new boss.
The Reds, who parted with Steve Cotterill shortly after the arrival of the Al-Hasawi family as the club's new owners, announced that O'Driscoll is to take their managerial reins on Thursday.
Forest have turned to a man who took in a spell on their coaching staff last season, with it hoped that familiarity will breed success.
Reid believes that will prove to be the case, with the players delighted to have welcomed O'Driscoll back to the City Ground.
"Everybody's happy. We spoke about it yesterday when we heard his name being mentioned and everybody was really happy about it," the Irish midfielder told
Sky Sports News HD.
"I don't think it's a case, as is being made out, that it's the players that have made the appointment. It's not like that, but we are really happy.
"Sean really impressed us all last season when he came in. When his name was mentioned and we were asked, we gave our opinion and the overriding opinion was that we would like him to be our manager."
Right choice
Upon taking charge of the Championship outfit, the Al-Hasawis claimed that they were looking for an 'iconic' coach to take the club forward.
Reid concedes that O'Driscoll does not necessarily fit into that category, but he considers that to be a good thing.
"No, I don't think so, but for me personally, I'm really glad of that," he said.
"It would have been easy just to name somebody just for the sake of it, somebody who had a big name, but we weren't bothered about that.
"We wanted somebody who was going to be right for the job, who knew the league, knew us and, in my opinion, I don't think there could be a better person."
