Oxford United manager Chris Wilder is confident his squad will be stronger after signing midfielder Lee Cox on loan from Swindon Town until next January.
Cox only signed a two-and-a-half year contract at Swindon in January this year, but he started just two games as the club won the League Two title.
He was linked with a loan return to former club Inverness Caledonian Thistle, but manager Terry Butcher did not expect a deal to materialise due to the rival interest in the 22-year-old.
A move to Oxford has now been finalised and Wilder is looking forward to having Cox in his plans for the first half of the season.
"We definitely needed someone in the middle of the park after losing Paul McLaren and Asa Hall in the summer and the signing of Lee will certainly make us stronger," Wilder told the club's official website.
"He can also play right-back which is really useful for the start of the season when we'll be without Andy Whing.
"I watched him come through Leicester's academy but unfortunately it didn't work out for him. Inverness had to pay a fee to take him up there and he helped them win promotion to the SPL in his first season. Terry Butcher speaks very highly of him and he's played a lot of games for his age."
