Chris Hughton is sweating on the fitness of Norwich City defender Steven Whittaker after the former Rangers man limped off in their friendly against Celtic on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old Scotland international was being put through his paces just hours after being granted temporary international clearance by FIFA over his disputed transfer.
Whittaker is one of a number of players, including Steven Naismith, Kyle Lafferty and Jamie Ness, whose moves newco Rangers chief executive Charles Green had attempted to block.
His appearance on his return to Glasgow, though, was cut short after he suffered an ankle injury in the first half and now the Norwich boss faces an anxious wait to see the full extent of the damage.
"We will find out over the next couple of days," said Hughton. "What he has done is rock his ankle.
"We are hoping it is not going to be too bad but generally with these things you don't know until the next couple of days when you see how it settles down. But we are hoping he is not going to be too bad.
"He has settled in really well but it would be a blow, whether it is Steven or anyone at this stage to be without them for whatever period."
Norwich ran out 1-0 winners at Parkhead thanks to a late strike from Grant Holt who tucked the ball away from close range after Celtic keeper Fraser Forster had blocked a powerful drive from Jonathan Howson.
"We had to defend well," added Hughton afterwards. "Which we did and we kept going and we are really delighted with the win."
