Cheltenham believed to have failed in move to sign striker

Sky Sports understands Charlton have rejected a bid from Cheltenham for striker Leon Clarke. The 27-year-old only moved to The Valley from Swindon in January as part of a swap deal involving fellow striker Paul Benson. However, he struggled to force his way into Chris Powell's first team, making just one start, and was later sent out on loan to Crawley for the remainder of the season. Clarke has been linked with a permanent summer exit from the League One champions as they prepare for life back in the Championship. Oldham Athletic were interested in signing the former Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday forward earlier in the summer but saw their bid rebuffed by the Addicks. Now League Two Cheltenham have seen their offer rejected, meaning Robins boss Mark Yates will have to turn his attention to other targets.
